Jared earned every single penny of his $1,000 raised for the Cadillac Pathway.
What’s the longest you’ve ever ridden a bike? 20 miles? 50 miles? 100 miles? Now, what’s the longest you’ve ever ridden a fat bike? For most, a couple of hours and maybe 20 to 30 miles is the maximum they’ve spent pedaling in the snow. For Jared Dunham, that is just a warm-up.
This past Saturday, Jared rode, and rode, and rode. Looking to raise awareness for our Winter Sports Trail and money to help bring 11 miles of new singletrack to life, Jared signed up to go for 12 hours straight, piloting his fat bike on the Pathway for nearly half a day. Starting out, his goal was to hit right around 90 miles, a quick pace on wide tires and wet, heavy snow. Even in ideal conditions, it was ambitious.
And the groomers certainly gave him something gorgeous to ride. You couldn’t have asked for better conditions over the weekend, with sun, hard-packed snow, and comfortable temperatures for Jared’s big day out. He ended up putting down eight full laps of the Winter Sports Trail and tacking on a few shorter Polar Bear Epic laps for good measure. With just over 90 minutes of stopped time in total, Jared was almost constantly moving, resting only to eat and reload his on-bike supplies. He averaged 8.7 miles per hour over the course of 10 hours, 41 minutes of moving time. He burned a whopping 4,263 calories with a surprisingly low average heart rate of 89 bpm.
We want to thank Jared for all his hard work and his commitment to putting in a massive effort for a great cause. Jared’s donations came in from across the state, ultimately totaling over $1,000. That’s a huge boost as we look to add 11 miles of singletrack to the existing trail system. As you know, these trails deserve a refresh and some additional mileage, and we’re working to add more loops in an effort to build the Cadillac Pathway into the outdoor resource our community deserves.
