In 2015 several members of the Cadillac Cycling Club did a few worker bees to remove rubber mats that were laid down on the trail system approximately 15 years ago. The thought process 15 years ago was to lay these mats to try and sustain the hill side from erosion. After several years it became apparent that the users of the trail did not use these mats. Instead they road, walked, or ran next to them. By their lack of use the trail along side the mat eroded which left the mats raised up and exposing sharp edges. After consultation with the MDNR it was deemed that they were unsafe and the mats were removed. The community was very pleased with them being removed and we have not noticed any additional erosion by them being gone.
